Visiting Cape Cod for the first time was something special. I’d heard so much about it, and being from outside the U.S., I wasn’t sure what to expect. But wow, the Cape lived up to all the hype. Here are the top 5 memories I’ll take with me from that trip.
1. Whale Watching
Whale-watching was obviously at the top of my list, and it blew me away. I’d never seen anything like it before. The boat ride itself was fun, but when I saw my first whale break the surface, I was speechless! The sheer size and grace of these creatures—it’s a memory that’ll stick with me forever. It’s one of those moments where you just feel connected to nature in a way you never have before.
2. Grays Beach
Grays Beach was one of the most beautiful places I visited. That long boardwalk over the marshes is such a perfect spot to just... be. The sunset was incredible, with the sky turning all sorts of colors. As someone visiting from outside the U.S., this was one of those places that made me feel like I was in a movie. I could’ve stayed for hours, just taking it all in.
3. Chatham Fish Market
Coming from abroad, Cape Cod’s seafood had a reputation to live up to—and it didn’t disappoint! I visited the Chatham Fish Market, and it was everything I hoped for. The place was buzzing with energy, the smell of the ocean was in the air, and the seafood was as fresh as it gets. I had a crab cake and it was the best thing I tasted for the whole trip (yes, even better than the lobster roll!!). I loved watching the locals chat about the day’s catch and being part of the scene.
4. Martha’s Vineyard - Aquinnah Cliffs
Taking a day trip to Martha’s Vineyard felt like another mini adventure within the trip. The whole Island was stunning, especially the Aquinnah Cliffs. Standing there, looking out at the Atlantic, I had one of those "wow" moments where it all felt a bit surreal. I couldn’t stop snapping photos, but honestly, no picture can capture how amazing it felt to be there.
5. Drive-In Theater
One of the most unique experiences on the Cape was the drive-in theater. This was a total novelty for me, coming from a place where drive-ins aren’t really a thing. Watching a movie from the comfort of my car, under the stars—it felt like stepping into a different time. It was such a simple, fun way to spend the evening, and I totally get why it’s such a big deal here.
Bonus point - All the cute coffee shops
No trip to Cape Cod would be complete without mentioning the adorable coffee shops. From charming little cafes in Barnstable to cozy spots on Nantucket, each one has its own personality and a warm, welcoming vibe. Sipping on a sweet iced latte while watching the world go by was the perfect way to start (or end) the day. Plus, many of these shops have delicious pastries that are hard to resist!
